Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, alongside Federal Information Minister Atta Ullah Tarar, held a press conference on Thursday urging the public to disregard circulating fake notifications concerning the appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
The federal government was forced to address swirling rumours and viral fake news regarding the appointment of the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) after a number of media outlets, including Geo News, reportedly broadcast or amplified an unverified notification.

The situation arose amid intense public and political speculation surrounding the formal appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir to the new, dual-hatted role.
The original deadline for the CDF notification, coinciding with the expiry of his initial three-year term as Army Chief, had passed without an official announcement, creating a vacuum that was quickly filled by digital misinformation.
Minister Tarar assured the nation that the genuine, original notification will be officially issued by the government shortly.
PTI founder Meetings
The Law Minister also addressed the highly debated issue of meetings with the PTI founder, Imran Khan. He clarified the official rules and jurisdiction.
Uzma Khan’s meeting with the PTI founder has also been suspended following the posting of a political message from Imran Khan and her subsequent discussion about it.
The ‘pro-India narrative’ from the prisoner will not be tolerated.
“A meeting was facilitated so you could see his health is good, but then you brought forth a political narrative,” the ministers implied.
Those creating a spectacle in front of Adiala Jail are also warned as action will now be taken.
The Punjab government holds the authority to permit meetings with Imran Khan.
Under current regulations, superior prisoners are allowed one meeting per week, with a limit of six attendees.
Minister Tarar emphasized that the Jail Superintendent reserves the right and power to restrict or disallow any meeting.
The ministers stressed the importance of constitutional adherence for the national system, urging citizens not to be unduly concerned by misinformation.
