Escalating tensions in the Middle East have disrupted RLNG supplies, intensifying the gas crisis in Karachi, where gas supply is being suspended after 9am.
The shortfall in Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) has created a supply gap in the system of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
According to sources, Karachi is currently receiving 650 MMCFD of natural gas, while a reduction of 80 MMCFD in RLNG supply has triggered the crisis.
Large parts of the city, including New Karachi, North Karachi, Surjani Town, Federal B Area, Shadman Town, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Garden, Lea Market and Orangi, are facing severe disruption.
SSGC sources stated that Qatar has shut down its RLNG plant and no cargo is currently en route. If the situation persists, a revised gas load management schedule may be issued.
The company indicated that a new gas supply schedule will be announced after 10 March.
