Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government of Pakistan were set to engage in the fourth round of negotiations today, but the situation remains uncertain as PTI is insisting on not attending the talks, declaring that the PMLN-led government did not meet their demands.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, has summoned a meeting of the negotiating committees at Parliament House on Tuesday. He earlier contacted PTI’s Opposition Leader, Omer Ayub Khan, and PTI leader and former Speaker, Asad Qaiser, inviting the opposition for negotiations.
The PTI leadership has clearly stated that they will not attend the fourth round, alleging that the government has failed to form a judicial commission on the 9 May and November 26 incidents. PTI Chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, has already declared the negotiations as part of a photo session.
Barrister Gohar stated, “We will not attend the photo session for mere greetings. No steps have been taken by the government to address our demands, and this is a serious issue within the seven-day timeframe, already agreed upon between us.”
Moreover, he stated that the negotiations had ended for PTI, as the government had not shown any intention of resolving their issues, declaring the measures as important. He expressed concern over why the government did not announce anything, nor did it take any other steps towards the success of negotiations.
