PESHAWAR: Four soldiers were martyred on Thursday as they foiled a group of terrorists attempting to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan border.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists had “attempted to infiltrate” Pakistan from Afghanistan on the midnight of March 23-24 in the Hassan Khel area of North Waziristan district. The infiltration attempt was foiled due to alertness and timely response of the security forces.
“Due to alertness and timely response of the troops, the infiltration attempt was foiled. Terrorists retaliated with fire which was reciprocated in a befitting manner,” said the ISPR statement. The terrorists fled away after failing to enter the country and “suffered heavy casualties” according to intelligence reports.
The four soldiers who embraced martyrdom were identified as 34-year-old Lance Havaldar Wajahat Alam of Ghizer in Gilgit Baltistan, Sepoy Sajjid Inayat, aged 25, resident of Sheikhupura, Sepoy Maqbool Hayat, aged 32, resident of Ghizer in Gilgit Baltistan, and 22-year-old Sepoy Sajjid Ali, resident of Skardu.
“The Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” vowed the ISPR.
Earlier in the month, four terrorists had been killed and two soldiers were martyred in the intense exchange of fire in Bloro area of Bajaur district.
The ISPR said in a statement that the terrorists resorted to firing on the security forces in Bloro, Bajaur district. The security forces initiated a prompt response and effectively engaged the terrorists’ location, resultantly, four terrorists were killed.
