ISLAMABAD: In a pre-dawn operation conducted by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Police, the residence of former Islamabad Mayor Pir Adil Gilani was demolished — an action that has ignited widespread public condemnation and raised serious questions about due process and executive overreach.

Pir Adil Gilani, a PML-N-backed former mayor who served briefly in early 2021, claimed the demolition proceeded despite a stay order issued by the Islamabad High Court. “If court orders don’t bind the government, then who does?” he questioned, underscoring the perceived impunity.
Local residents and civil society groups have decried the timing and secrecy of the operation, arguing that any lawful action should have been conducted transparently and during daylight hours.
“Demolishing a home under cover of night doesn’t just violate procedure — it exposes the character of those in power,” said one resident. As of now, no official statement has been issued by the government clarifying the legality or justification for the demolition.
