Flour prices have surged by R200 per 20kg flour bag in the last week due various reasons including supply chain disruptions, potential hoarding, and high fuel costs.
According to documents from the Federal Bureau of Statistics, during the past week the price of a 20kg flour bag increased by Rs200 in Hyderabad and Larkana, Rs190 in Sargodha, and up to Rs160 in Sukkur.
The document shows that the price of a 20kg flour bag also increased by Rs133.33 in Multan, while in Karachi and Khuzdar it rose by up to Rs100.
Similarly, prices went up by Rs90 in Quetta, Rs67 in Islamabad, Rs66 in Gujranwala, and up to Rs40 in Rawalpindi.
The data reveals that Karachi currently has the highest price of a 20kg flour bag in the country at up to Rs2,500, while Lahore has the lowest price at around Rs1,810.
According to the document, the price in Quetta stands at Rs2,450, Hyderabad at Rs2,440, Islamabad at Rs2,373, Peshawar at Rs2,350, and Bannu and Khuzdar at around Rs2,300 for a 20kg bag.
In Rawalpindi, the price is Rs2,347, Faisalabad Rs2,250, while in Sukkur and Larkana it has reached up to Rs2,200.
The document further says that in Gujranwala, Multan, and Sialkot the price is Rs2,133, in Bahawalpur Rs2,067, and in Sargodha up to Rs2,000 for a 20kg flour bag.
