Flour prices have increased in Karachi just weeks before the start of Ramadan, adding to concerns over rising living costs.
The price of No. 2.5 flour in the city has risen by Rs10 per kilogram, reaching Rs140 per kg. Fine flour has also gone up by Rs10 and is now being sold at Rs160 per kg.
Similarly, flour produced by local grinding mills is now available at Rs160 per kg following a Rs10 increase.
In Quetta, tea stalls have raised the price of a cup of tea from Rs50 to Rs60.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Punjab Grocery Merchants Association, Hafiz Arif, said flour prices are also increasing in Lahore. He noted that a 20kg flour bag, previously sold for Rs1,800, is now being priced at Rs2,000.
Loose flour is being sold at Rs130 per kg, up from Rs95, while chakki flour has reached Rs150 per kg.
According to Hafiz Arif, flour prices have increased by around Rs20 per kg ahead of Ramadan. Fine flour (maida) is currently being sold at Rs11,000 per maund.
