A picnic turned tragic on Wednesday as five students drowned at a beach in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi, rescue officials said.
The incident took place at Manora Beach. The bodies of three students have been recovered. While two were rescued initially, one student remains in critical condition.
The victims were students of Dow University of Health Sciences and have been identified as Ahmed Kashif, Asharib, and Ashar.
Last August, two young men drowned after being swept away by strong waves at Hawkesbay Beach.
Police identified the victims as 17-year-old Arsalan Imran and 20-year-old Shahab. Their third companion, 18-year-old Hasnain, who was also carried away by the currents, was saved by rescue teams.
The recent incident occurred around 5:30 pm near Hut N-40 on Manora Road.
