Five security personnel, including a major, embraced martyrdom during an intense exchange of fire with terrorists in Barkhan District on Wednesday during a sanitization operation carried out by the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps Balochistan.
According to Inter Services Public Relations, the operation was launched in the morning of May 13 in the general area of Nosham to eliminate terrorists belonging to what officials described as the Indian-backed Fitna Al Hindustan.
During the operation, troops located and engaged a group of terrorists. In the ensuing exchange of fire, seven terrorists were killed, while weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from them.
However, during the heavy firefight, five security personnel embraced martyrdom. The martyrs included Major Tauseef Ahmed Bhatti, 31, a resident of Pakpattan; Naik Fida Hussain, 36, a resident of Sukkur; Sepoy Zakir Hussain, 32, a resident of Skardu; Sepoy Suhail Ahmed, 21, a resident of Khanewal; and Sepoy Muhammad Ayaz, 24, a resident of Rahim Yar Khan.
Security officials said sanitization operations in the surrounding areas were continuing to eliminate any other terrorists present in the region.
The statement added that the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue at full pace to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
