LAHORE: The Pakistan Railways has announced more five per cent concession in the transport charges for businessmen on container and coal train.
According to the PR spokesman, the decision has been taken to facilitate the business community in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak effects on business under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The railways have already given a 20 per cent discount on the freight to share the burden of the business community due to COVID-19. Now the total concession on freight has reached up to 25 per cent. Meanwhile, the businessmen welcomed the decision.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed had assured that the Pakistan Railways stands firmly united with the nation during the pandemic.
Speaking to media in Rawalpindi, Shiekh Rasheed had said, “The ministry had arranged a few trains for the coronavirus patients. It can be used at the time of need.”
The railway minister said “Pakistan Railways might run limited trains by maintaining a distance. Sheikh Rasheed further said that Pakistan can defeat coronavirus pandemic through national unity, discipline, and awareness.
He said, “Each railway porter will get Rs 12,000 from the Ehsaas Cash Programme,” adding that Pakistan Railways was making strategy to send tickets to passengers at their homes in Karachi and Lahore.
“The situation regarding coronavirus pandemic is controlled in Pakistan,” he asserted. Earlier the federal minister had also donated Rs 50.1 million to the coronavirus fund.
