Five drown in Indus River near Thatta

At least five children drown in Karachi’s Surjani Town
THATTA: Five people, including three women and two children,  drowned in the Indus river near Ghorabari in district Thatta on Saturday.
According to rescues sources, the incident took place at Goth Ismail Jatt in the coastal area of Dandari. Rescue sources said all of the victims were drowned while trying to save a falling child in the river.
The police said that the women were washing clothes on the riverside when a child slipped into the river. The women dived in the water to save the child however none of them survived, police added.
The local people retrieved four dead bodies, three women and a child, from the river, police said. The divers are still searching for an un-traced child, officials added.
On April 26, five children were drowned in a tank of an under-construction building in Karachi’s Surjani Town’s Sector 7D.
According to details, a group of five children had jumped into the water tank of an under-construction building in order to swim but couldn’t survive.
The rescue official had informed that the children were between the ages of nine and 14. The rescue officials have retrieved the bodies and shifted them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for completing legal formalities.
