Farah Khan, a close friend of first lady Bushra Bibi, has left for Dubai following the dissolution of the National Assembly and the no-confidence move against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to reports, Farah left for Dubai in the wee hours of Monday. Her husband Jamil Gujjar has already left the country. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) did not stop her as there was no restraining order. Farah Khan has been the centre of controversy as the opposition has made serious allegations of corruption against her.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as well as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz mentioned Farah Khan several times recently and accused her of being involved in corruption.
Maryam Nawaz had alleged that a Lahore-based woman Farah was involved in taking bribes on behalf of the government for transfers and postings.
Responding to the accusations, PM’s former political aide Shahbaz Gill had said that Maryam had started to target Bushra’s friend after she couldn’t find the grounds to criticise her. Gill said that Farah did not hold any public post and she is also not a member of PTI.
He said that the PML-N has a history of maligning women for its petty political gains, which is detestable. “Since they [PML-N] don’t have anything against first lady so they are hurling allegations through her friend, Farah Bibi,” he had added.
Gill said both women are apolitical and have no involvement in the political matters. “First lady is not involved in political matters… she does not even have a bank account,” he said, adding that it is inappropriate to attack a politician’s family members. He regretted that the party has been targeting the First lady, Bushra Bibi, for the last three years without any reason.
Last week, during an interview, the prime minister said that he knows that not only his life is in danger but the opposition will also resort to his character assassination. “Let me inform my nation that my life is at risk too, they have also planned for my character assassination. Not only myself but my wife too and her friend Farah Khan too,” said the prime minister.
