An FIR has been registered in Rawalpindi under the PECA Act against a local citizen for sharing a video on social media, with Traffic Police Warden Imran Sikandar filing the complaint, as reported by national media on Tuesday.
According to reports, Imran Sikandar lodged his complaint at the Cantt Police Station in Rawalpindi. The case was initiated under Section 21, Subsection 1-D of the PECA Act 2016. The FIR alleges that the accused shared a video on social media showing a vehicle parked illegally، and this is the second FIR lodged against a citizen under the same act.
The FIR details that the citizen recorded the video of a vehicle being lifted for illegal parking and subsequently made it viral on social media. The complainant confirmed that a challan ticket had been issued for the vehicle’s violation of no-parking regulations.
The FIR further notes that the vehicle was parked outside a shop, and the individual accused of recording and sharing the video is the shop owner. The complainant asserts that the shop owner deliberately spread the video to incite public resentment against the traffic police. This act, according to the FIR, is a punishable offense under the PECA Act 2016.
