Aamir Khan Productions has officially announced its next project, the quirky spy-comedy ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos,’ confirming a theatrical release date of January 16, 2026.
The announcement was made through a humorous video released by the production house, which featured Aamir Khan playfully critiquing the film’s unconventional elements before an unseen audience is heard cheering its “unfiltered fun, wild humor, and a whole lot of entertainment.”

Aamir is seen confronting, and at one point playfully “beating up,” Vir Das over the film’s contents. He questions Vir’s choices, particularly the lack of typical Bollywood action, romance (pointing out the heroine slaps the hero), and an item song (which Vir apparently performs himself).
The punchline is the audience’s reaction. As Aamir is criticizing the film as “offbeat” and a potential “flop,” viewers exit the test screening, raving about the very elements Aamir criticized, praising the “unfiltered fun” and “wild humor.” Aamir then quickly changes his tune and praises Vi
The film is set to be a “wild ride,” blending comedy, action, romance, and espionage. The project is notable for marking the feature-length directorial debut of comedian-actor Vir Das, who also co-directs with Kavi Shastri and plays the titular lead character.
Vir Das stars as Happy Patel alongside Mona Singh in a pivotal role.
The movie features Aamir Khan in a special appearance.
One of the biggest surprises is the confirmation of Imran Khan’s return to acting.
Imran Khan, who last appeared in the 2015 film Katti Batti, is making his acting comeback after nearly a decade-long hiatus.

The announcement video included a brief glimpse of Imran Khan in his character, further confirming his participation and generating excitement among fans who enjoyed his work in films like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and the aforementioned Delhi Belly.
The film is definitely aiming to be one of the most talked-about releases of early 2026
