The Federal Finance Minister, Muhammad Aurangzeb, has denied reports circulating on social media regarding additional tax measures or a mini-budget following the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) productive visit.
According to reports published by local media on Sunday, the development came after the IMF mission, led by Nathan Porter, concluded a staff visit to the country from November 12 to 15. The Finance Minister described the discussions with the IMF as both constructive and productive.
“The discussions with the IMF were constructive and productive. Virtual negotiations with the IMF, however, are ongoing, as certain points required in-person discussions,” Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb told a news channel on Saturday.
Speaking about the IMF mission’s visit, the Finance Minister emphasized that an open and fact-based dialogue was held with the IMF team. He stated that the global lender’s delegation listened to Pakistan’s perspective carefully and appeared satisfied during the discussions.
Muhammad Aurangzeb further remarked, “The purpose of the IMF’s visit was not to review the economy but to build confidence.” He also referred to the failed privatization of Pakistan International Airlines as a “setback” for the government but highlighted the use of military courts to try civilians, including Imran Khan.
