PESHAWAR: Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with the help of Facebook authorities claimed to have arrested a man allegedly involved in blackmailing a girl using her objectionable photos.
According to FIA officials, acting on a complaint they have apprehended an accused identified as Adnan during a raid in Peshawar for forwarding obscene videos of the girl to others.
The FIA officials further said the accused had forwarded her objectionable photos to family members and friends, adding that they traced the accused with the help of the Facebook administration.
The development came after a report earlier in the day Facebook has agreed to share its data with local authorities to investigate and eradicate cybercrime.
The Facebook administration has signed an agreement with the cybercrime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan to share the data with Pakistani authorities in a bid to secure the electronic horizon and curb the leeway cybercriminals enjoyed.
According to a press statement issued by the agency, FIA will appoint focal persons for the cybercrime wing in every province of Pakistan.
These focal persons, in turn, will contact Facebook to obtain necessary statistics on the cyber crimes committed against women and children.
This was decided in a meeting of FIA officials and the Facebook administration during a webinar.
