A review report on fertilizer usage in Punjab highlights a significant surge in the purchase of fertilizers and pesticides through the Chief Minister Punjab Kisan Card scheme. According to the report, urea sales reached 991 thousand tons, reflecting a 57.9% increase, attributed to the Kisan Card initiative.
The report also reveals that sales of organic fertilizers rose by 42.9%, including a 50.7% rise in nitrogen, a 9.3% increase in phosphate, and a 0.8% growth in potash usage. Additionally, fertilizer prices have dropped during this period.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that four lakh farmers have purchased agricultural inputs worth Rs 35 billion using Kisan Cards. She added that seven and a half lakh farmers will benefit from the scheme, with Kisan Cards already issued to over five lakh and 30 thousand farmers. She described the initiative as the largest program in Punjab’s history aimed at agriculture development and farmer welfare.
The Chief Minister also announced the commencement of satellite monitoring of wheat sowing across 1.61 crore acres in Punjab. She explained that satellite images of the sowing areas will be verified and later compared with images of the mature wheat crop at harvest time.
