KARACHI: The federal government has decided for taking back important railway properties in Karachi in a bid to increase the income of Pakistan Railways.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi today (Sunday), Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed, has said that Pakistan Railways has 38-canal land and Prime Minister Imran Khan will take final decision for its utilisation.
He said, “We have decided to hand over Pakistan Railways land to the Sindh government,” adding that Responsible officers would be transferred from Lahore to Karachi.
Sheikh Rasheed has claimed that they have reduced losses up to Rs4 billion and the target was to shrink it to Rs6 billion this year.
The federal minister said that Karachi Circular Railway was the project of Sindh government and the centre would assist Sindh if it makes some progress.
He assured that a railway university will be established in Sindh under the ML-1 project, adding that he had established two universities in Rawalpindi.
Sheikh Rasheed claimed that about 100,000 jobs would be generated in ML-1 project.
Referring to Supreme Court’s proceedings against Pakistan Railways, he said that SC gave them guidelines and sought the business plan.
