The FBR has launched a large-scale, AI-powered audit program targeting over seven million income tax returns. The AI tools analyze data to identify discrepancies, cases of underpayment (taxpayers paying less than 25% of their due tax), and potential tax evasion patterns, which helps in ensuring compliance and expanding the tax net.
Pakistan’s first AI-powered customs system was introduced to automate the evaluation of imported and exported goods, cut down human involvement, and improve the efficiency and accuracy of import/export valuations.
This system has significantly increased the number of goods declarations processed through the green channel.
The FBR has launched an AI-powered assistant/chatbot to provide round-the-clock, tailored responses to taxpayer queries, aiming to make taxpayer facilitation faster and more efficient.
The FBR is implementing a system using Intelligent Video Surveillance (IVS) technology for the non-intrusive electronic monitoring of production in the manufacturing sector.
This helps in collecting accurate production data and curtailing under-declaration by potential tax evaders, with initial trials showing 98% efficiency.
The FBR has decided to launch a pilot project using machine learning and AI for the digital monitoring of the Point of Sale (POS) and Track & Trace systems to enhance revenue collection from Tier-1 retailers and select manufacturers.
