ISLAMABAD: The FBR has approved the temporary importation of vehicles by tourists into Pakistan without customs duty for up to three months, here on Tuesday.
As per the amended Customs Rules 2001, outlined in SRO 1965 issued on Monday, tourists can import vehicles using a carnet-de-passage or a bank guarantee.
The vehicle will be delivered without Customs duties if the tourists declare they will not transfer ownership during their stay.
If the vehicle is not exported within three months, tourists can apply for an extension for up to three months. If re-entering Pakistan within a year, vehicles can stay temporarily for only 14 days unless operated by a foreign tour agency, in which case re-entry is allowed for up to three months.
In cases of health issues or uncontrollable circumstances, a six-month extension may be granted by the chief collector of Customs. Tourists passing through Pakistan without a carnet-de-passage or bank guarantee can also pass through without Customs duties, subject to escort charges and vehicle details recorded in their passport.
