KARACHI: Like other parts of the world, International Father’s Day is being celebrated across Pakistan to pay tribute to the unconditional love and support he provides to the whole family.
The main objective of the day is to recognize the contribution and services of fathers for their children. It honors fathers for their relentless dedication to their families and celebrates fatherhood and paternal bonds.
Several programmes are being held to pay homage to the great person for his unconditional love and support. Fathers are not articulate enough when it comes to expressing the inner deep feelings, unlike mothers.
People send flowers and present Father’s Day cakes, cards, mugs, sweets and other gifts to their fathers on this day. The event has gained attention in recent years and mainly due to social media that people honour and cherish the man in their lives who play a major role in who they become as adults.
On this occasion, every child gets a turn to tell a father about his importance by sending special messages to them. Indeed, he deserves a big thank for the never-ending support of the family.
The first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington, by a Sonora Smart Dodd at YMCA (Young Men s Christian Association) who after hearing a sermon on Mother’s Day asked the pastor for a similar holiday for fathers because she had been raised by a single father of six children.
She originally suggested the day to be celebrated on her father’s birthday but the pastors needed time for preparation of sermons so the 3rd Sunday of June was declared as Father’s Day.
