Senior players are expected to return to the Pakistani squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.
According to media reports, Mohammad Rizwan will be the only wicketkeeper-captain in the squad of the ICC Champions Trophy. There is also a possibility of the return of aggressive opener Fakhar Zaman.
Similarly, Imam-ul-Haq, who last played an ODI World Cup in 2023, is expected to be brought back along with young opener Saim Ayub.
The ICC Champions Trophy squad will include four fast bowlers. Apart from 3 spinners, 7 batters can also be made part of the squad.
It is likely to pave the way for the return of all-rounder Shadab Khan in place of out-form Irfan Khan Niazi.
It should be noted that the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy will be played between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi on February 19. The final of the tournament is scheduled for March 9.
The National Bank Stadium in Karachi and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host the Group 3 matches. While Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will host at least 4 matches, all matches will start at 2 pm local time.
