KARACHI: It has been revealed that former Director-General of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi Nasir Awan, along with other officials, are involved in the illegal allotment of cancelled plots worth billions of rupees in Lines Area Redevelopment Project (LARP).
Relevant sources have informed that LARP Project Director Mubeen Siddiqui, LARP deputy director Waqaruddin, with the alleged patronage of former DG NAB Karachi, allotted large plots in LARP to an industrialist and an owner of a renowned advertising company.
Sources prior to the development informed that former project directors Farid Yousafani, Ata Abbas Zaidi, Shahid Umar, Farid Naseem, Tahir Durrani, and Wasim Iqbal are also involved in illegally allotting the plots in LARP.
Sources further informed that the corrupt officials of the LARP leased these plots worth billions of rupees to the builders involved in the NAB reference 27/2015 filed in 2015 against illegal damage to the project.
In this regard, sources claimed that former DG NAB Karachi Nasir Awan and other NAB officials, including project director Mubeen Siddiqui and deputy director Waqaruddin, received billions of rupees in underhand payments.
During the investigation in 2015, former project directors Farid Yousafani, Ata Abbas, Shahid Umar, Farid Naseem, Tahir Durrani, and Wasim Iqbal were arrested on charges of fraud and financial corruption.
According to sources, out of all the accused, KDA’s current director finance Ata Abbas, Shahid Umar, and Farid Naseem have been released on bail. However, other accused, including former project director Farid Yousafani, are still in NAB custody.
