KARACHI: In a major breakthrough, law enforcement agencies have re-arrested a high-profile prisoner who managed a daring escape from Malir Jail last week.
Tahir Naveed, notoriously known as “Polka”—a dangerous criminal facing trial for murder and kidnapping—was apprehended during a meticulously coordinated joint operation near the Landhi Railway Station, police officials confirmed today.
According to a spokesperson for the Malir Police, the recapture was the result of an intelligence-led joint operation.
The raid was executed by a collaborative team comprising the Federal Intelligence Team, Shah Latif Town Police, and Prison Police. Acting on precise actionable intelligence, the joint team cordoned off the area around Landhi Railway Station, cutting off all escape routes and taking the fugitive back into custody without further incident.
The arrest comes just days after the prisoner’s brazen escape on May 9, 2026.
According to prison sources, the accused exploited security vulnerabilities during an official function being hosted inside Malir Jail. Police reports state that the fugitive threw dust in the eyes of security by blending into the crowd of visiting guests and using them as cover to slip out of the facility undetected.
Tahir alias Polka is considered a highly dangerous individual by law enforcement authorities. He was originally arrested by the Joharabad Investigation Police in connection with severe offenses, including murder and kidnapping, and was subsequently remanded to judicial custody and transferred to Malir Jail on April 27 of this year.
A formal case regarding his recent criminal activities remains registered at the Shah Latif Town Police Station. Furthermore, police records reveal that the accused has a history of involvement in high-profile criminal cases, as he was previously arrested and jailed as a suspect in the assassination case of renowned journalist Wali Khan Babar, though he was later acquitted in that specific matter.
Following his recapture, a fresh probe has been launched into the severe security lapse at the facility. Police officials stated that a comprehensive investigation has been started to uncover the exact motives, potential facilitators, and the systemic loopholes that allowed a high-risk prisoner to escape from the jail premises.
