Electric shock for K-Electric consumers as power price increase

The recent increase in electricity prices is due to the January fuel cost adjustment.

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has given a shock of electricity to the poor people by increasing the tariff by Rs7.5 paise per unit, before the establishment of the new government in the country.

According to the notification issued by Nepra, this increase in electricity prices was done in the context of monthly fuel adjustment.

The recent increase in electricity prices is due to the January fuel cost adjustment. The increase in electricity prices will be applied to the current month’s bills.

The increase will not be applicable to the electricity customers including Lifeline, the increase in electricity prices will be applicable only for one month.

It should be remembered that after the end of the tenure of the PDM government, an additional burden of Rs352 billion was put on the consumers in terms of monthly and quarterly adjustments during the caretaker government.

The monthly adjustment put an additional burden of Rs 170 billion on the electricity consumers. Apart from this, an additional burden of more than Rs 182 billion was imposed on electricity consumers in the 2 quarterly adjustments.
