JHANG: An elderly man died after allegedly being tortured while in the custody of Jhang police, local lawyers and media sources said.
According to accounts from residents and witnesses, the man was arrested by a station house officer (SHO) of the Jhang police. He was reportedly subjected to severe torture while detained. Unable to withstand the injuries, the man collapsed and died.
Lawyers alleged that Jhang Police later placed his body in a police van and transported it to a hospital in the middle of the night, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police have not clarified the reason for the arrest or provided details about the circumstances that led to the man’s death.
Local residents are demanding an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident and accountability for any officers found responsible.
Officials at the hospital declined to comment pending notification of the family and completion of formal procedures.
The district administration and police spokesperson have been contacted for a statement; their responses were not available at the time of the filing of this report.
