Eid Ul Adha, one of the two major Islamic festivals alongside Eidul Fitr, is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijja, the final month of the Islamic calendar.
In Pakistan, preliminary forecasts suggest that Eid ul-Adha will likely fall on Saturday, June 7, 2025. However, the exact date will be confirmed following the Ruet-e-Hilal process, when the country’s moon sighting committee officially announces it.
Also known as “Greater Eid” or Eid II, Eid ul-Adha is marked by the performance of the Eid prayer in the morning, followed by the ritual sacrifice, or qurbani (udhiyah), of sheep or other livestock.
This practice commemorates the Islamic tradition that honors Prophet Abraham’s (PBUH) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Depending on the narrative, either Ishmael or Isaac is referred to as “The Sacrifice of God.”
For those undertaking Hajj, Eid ul-Adha holds particular significance. Pilgrims perform rituals such as the tawaf and saee, along with the symbolic stoning of the devil on Eid day and the following days, as part of their spiritual journey.
