SHARAQPUR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday rejected PTI’s plea seeking a recount of votes in PP-139 Sheikphura-V — which it lost to the PML-N.
The PTI candidate, Abu Bakar Sharaqpuri, had approached the ECP for a recount, but his request has been rejected and the final result has been released by the Election Commission.
It merits mention here that PML-N candidate Chaudhry Iftikhar Bhangoo had obtained 36,435 votes, while PTI candidate Abu Bakar Sharaqpuri could only bag 34,973 votes.
In the 2018 general elections, this seat was won by the PML-N. At that time, Jalil Ahmad Sharaqpuri, the candidate of the PML-N, embraced the victory.

During the number game situation in Punjab, he [Sharaqpuri] resigned from the PML-N and joined the PTI, after which the ticket was given to Jalil Sharaqpuri’s cousin Abu Bakar Sharaqpuri in his place.
