DUBAI: In a highly competitive auction, the vehicle number plate P7 was sold for an incredible amount of Dh55 million at the “Most Noble Numbers” charity auction, held in support of the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign.
According to information made available through local media, the event was held in Dubai on Saturday, April 8, and saw guests at the Four Seasons resort in Jumeirah fiercely bidding against each other.
The bidding started at Dh15 million and quickly soared to over Dh30 million. The bid reached a stalemate at Dh35 million, which was placed by Pavel Valeryevich Durov, the French-Emirati businessman who founded the app Telegram.
However, bids continued to pour in from various quarters, and the price escalated to an incredible Dh55 million, with bid panel 7 eventually winning the auction.
The bidder wished to remain anonymous. The auction marked a new world record, surpassing the previous record of Dh52.5 million set sixteen years ago in Abu Dhabi. As the confetti and sparkles rose from the stage, the crowd gathered around the winning bidder in celebration.
