Dual standards in Pakistan’s politics are common but especially when we talk about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, we find a number of examples where the party appreciates differences of opinion when it is in other parties but denounces the same in its own ranks.
Recently, PPP’s Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar tendered his resignation after knowing that the senior leadership of the party is not happy with him because of his “political positions”.
PTI leaders appreciated the move of Khokhar for raising his voice and resigning on the principled position. Even, the move was called the true spirit of democracy.
The PPP leader after tendering his resignation said he is thankful for the positive response and support across party lines which was far beyond my imagination,” Khokhar tweeted, referring to the appreciation he had received from politicians — mainly PTI leaders — for stepping down as a senator.
But the same Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf continued to expel its leaders over raising voices of difference of opinion and opposing the political position of the party. From Akbar S Babar to Faisal Vawda and now Khurram Hamid Rokhri.. All of them have been expelled from the party over differences in the political stance of the party.
Rokhri in his latest revelations on a private TV claimed that he along with him Salman Ahmad held meetings with the army officer who had been accused by Imran Khan of attacking him.
In apparent reaction, PTI leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Usman Dar, Shahbaz Gill and others said who is he [Rokhri] and he is not a PTI leader but within no time his pictures with Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry and other PTI leaders even in the recent visit of Imran Khan to Muzaffarabad went viral but like Vawda he was also expelled from the party in no time.
It has been a habit of PTI that difference of opinion is remarkable and appreciable when it is in other parties, but on other hand, it cannot tolerate the same within the party ranks.
