Aimal Wali, leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), has alleged that dog, donkey, and frog meat is being sold in various parts of Pakistan, raising serious concerns about food safety.
During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on National Food Security, Wali claimed that substandard and dangerous products, including plastic rice and adulterated milk, are widely available in the market, posing a threat to public health.
According to a report by Samaa News, he revealed that milk production in the country meets only 22% of the national consumption, with the remaining 78% being chemically adulterated white liquid. “Most of the milk consumed in the country is synthetic and contains harmful chemicals,” he added.
Senator Dinesh Kumar echoed these concerns, highlighting the absence of any mechanism to ensure the safety of rice. “There is no system to verify whether the rice people are eating is safe,” he stressed, calling for urgent regulatory reforms.
In response to these disturbing revelations, the committee has set up a sub-committee to draft policies addressing food security issues and ensuring strict enforcement of food quality standards.
This is not the first time such claims have surfaced. In 2018, former Interior Minister Shehryar Afridi revealed that donkey, dog, and even pork meat were being sold in parts of Islamabad. Experts say that the lack of strict monitoring and enforcement of food safety regulations has allowed such practices to continue.
