DIAMER: Heavy rains have triggered catastrophic flooding and landslides across Diamer district, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Multiple areas, including over six locations in Thor, have been submerged, with floodwaters and debris infiltrating homes, agricultural lands, and critical infrastructure.
According to reports from Hum News, the relentless downpour has washed away crops, trees, and fertile lands, while the connection road in Thor has been severed at several points, halting traffic and cutting off electricity to affected communities.
The devastation extends to Khanbari, where the floodwaters have swept away 13 dumpers, an excavator, a crush plant, and two water tankers belonging to a private company. Agricultural lands, crops, and trees in the area have suffered extensive damage, and the local connection road has been rendered impassable.
Karakoram Highway Closed, Stranding Passengers and Tourists
In Bunardas, the Karakoram Highway—a vital artery for trade and tourism—has been closed to all traffic due to flooding. Passengers, freight vehicles, and tourists remain stranded, while the power system in the affected regions has collapsed, leaving many areas without electricity since last night.
The situation in Niyat is equally dire. The connection road to the area has been closed at multiple points due to severe flooding, creating significant hardships for residents. Traffic has been suspended, and the road itself has sustained severe damage, further isolating the community.
Victims Demand Immediate Government Intervention
Affected residents have issued urgent appeals to the government, calling for immediate assistance, the restoration of electricity, and the repair of damaged roads. With critical infrastructure in ruins and communities cut off, the need for swift action has never been more pressing.
