Kabul: Several people have been killed and many others injured in a powerful explosion in Shahr-e-Naw, one of the central and relatively most secure areas of the Afghan capital.
According to Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, initial reports have confirmed casualties, although the exact number of deaths and injuries has yet to be determined.
He said investigations into the incident have been launched and further details will be shared once available.
News agencies report that Shahr-e-Naw is home to a significant number of foreign residents and has long been regarded as one of Kabul’s safest districts.
The blast has severely shaken the area’s sense of security and triggered fear and panic among local residents.
