MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Officials of the Drug Control Unit (DCU) in Mandi Bahauddin are allegedly receiving extortion from medical stores.
According to details, Mandi Bahauddin’s deputy drug controller Saqib is allegedly threatening the medical stores’ owners for extortion. One of the medical store owners informed that the deputy drug controller illegally issues Challan if they refused to pay extortion money.
“We are being treated unfairly for not paying the required extortion. The Drug Control Unit’s official usually abused and threatened us to seal our stores,” he added.
The medical stores’ owners further informed that the deputy drug controller is an influential person and claimed to be a member of the ruling party.
When contacted by M.M News, he refused to comment in this regard. Sources informed that the Deputy Drug Controller has termed all the claims ‘baseless’.
Earlier on Tuesday, a group of four extortionists opened fire on a young man in Mandi Bahauddin for not paying them. The young man, identified as Baqir, died at a hospital today (Thursday).
His family staged a protest at Chippa Chowk with his body. They have accused the police of arresting one of the culprits and letting him go but the police say he is in custody.
