The Telugu action thriller dacoit movie, ‘Dacoit Ek Prem Katha’, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, hit cinemas on April 10 amid modest buzz, blending a violent love story with themes of betrayal and revenge.
Directed by Shaneil Deo and produced by Annapurna Studios, S.S. Creations, and Suniel Narang Production, the dacoit movie follows Hari (Adivi Sesh), who faces brutal opposition from his lover Saraswati’s (Mrunal Thakur) brother, leading to his wrongful imprisonment for murder after Saraswati’s false accusation.
Supporting cast includes Anurag Kashyap as inspector Swamy, Prakash Raj, Atul Kulkarni, and Sunil, with thrilling action sequences and melodious music by Bheems Ceciroleo enhancing the narrative.
The trailer’s release generated significant pre-launch excitement, particularly after Bollywood icon Aamir Khan publicly praised it via Aamir Khan Productions’ social media, calling it “a powerful trailer that sets the tone right” and extending best wishes to the team.
Adivi Sesh, who has long cited Aamir Khan as his childhood idol and key influence in storytelling, expressed profound elation, resharing the post with, “Thank you so much sir… when my childhood idol appreciates our work, it truly means everything.” This endorsement amplified anticipation across platforms, marking a milestone for the pan-India release despite critics noting the screenplay’s length and pacing issues.
Early reviews have been mixed, with Filminformation.com labeling it a “below-average fare” for its lengthy, boring stretches and logical flaws, predicting a flop at the box office following a dull opening at venues like Inox in Bombay and weak nationwide performance. While Adivi Sesh delivers a fair performance and Mrunal Thakur shines in emotional scenes, direction and editing fall short of holding audience attention, though cinematography and action stand out. Details on its OTT release post-theatrical run remain pending, as the film navigates initial theatrical challenges in post-COVID times.
