Overseas Pakistanis are capable of contributing up to $1 billion per month in emergency funding through exchange companies, providing a vital financial buffer during national crises, according to Malik Bostan, Chairman of the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP).
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, Bostan said that a structured swap arrangement is already in place, enabling the Pakistani diaspora to extend financial assistance for up to two years, with full repayment guaranteed by the government.
“We have the capacity to mobilize $1 billion a month—equivalent to $12 billion annually—from overseas Pakistanis if the need arises,” he said.

His remarks come amid escalating military tensions between Pakistan and India. On Wednesday, India claimed to have targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, while Pakistan responded by reportedly downing five Indian aircraft. According to the Pakistani military, the Indian strikes resulted in 31 deaths and 57 injuries.
