Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan candidly stated that she predicted the cult classic Andaz Apna Apna would be a “big flop” upon its release.
In her conversation with actor-comedian Vir Das, Farah revealed that when she first saw the 1994 film, she did not imagine it would gain its current iconic status and instead believed it was destined for failure.
She noted that her prediction was factually correct at the time, as the film did indeed underperform at the box office.
While now considered one of Bollywood’s greatest comedies, the film’s initial failure is often attributed to poor distribution and a lack of promotion by its leads, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.
Vir Das, who considers the film a benchmark for comedy, expressed shock at her comment, mentioning that Aamir Khan had never disclosed the film’s “flop” status to him.
This revelation surfaced during a vlog at Vir Das’s home, where they discussed his upcoming project, Happy Patel, which is inspired by the spoof-style humor seen in Farah’s films like Om Shanti Om and Tees Maar Khan.
The film recently celebrated its legacy with a theatrical re-release in April 2025.
