ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has appealed to the people of Pakistan to comply with the preventive measures recommended by the authorities to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus despite a visible reduction in the number of infections.
“Pakistan has almost won its fight against coronavirus, however, it is necessary to follow the SOPs as the virus is spreading in some countries once again,” the president said in a video message issued today (Sunday).
President Alvi further said that the PTI-led federal government has effectively fought the pandemic by maintaining a balanced policy between health and economy.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has not let the countrymen unemployed during the difficult time and helped the citizens with the assistance provided through the Ehsaas programme,” he added.
The president also lauded the important role of clerics and media for spreading awareness among the masses. He also advised the nationals to adopt precautionary measures for a few more months in view of risks for the virus spread during its new wave.
Giving details on the precautionary measures, he said that the nationals must wear face masks, maintain social distancing, and wash hands again and again besides being careful during crowded gatherings.
It is pertinent to mention here that nearly 16 more people died of coronavirus in the country over the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll from the disease to 6,654.
