ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 53 deaths by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases surged to 554,474 in the last 24 hours.
Pakistan has reported 53 deaths in the last 24 hours by the novel coronavirus and 1,346 persons tested positive for COVID-19 during the period. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 11,967 on Sunday, according to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.
Up till now 250,648, coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 160,580 in Punjab 68,338 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 41,934 in Islamabad, 18,859 in Balochistan, 9,199 in Azad Kashmir and 4,916 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Moreover, 4,880 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,087 in Sindh, 1,952 in KP, 478 in Islamabad, 272 in Azad Kashmir, 196 in Balochistan, and 102 in GB.
Pakistan has so far conducted 8,192,720 coronavirus tests and 36,954 in the last 24 hours. 510,242 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 1,847 patients are in critical condition.
The National Immunization Drive against COVID-19 formally commenced across the country on February 3, one year after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
The healthcare officials were administered with first shots of China’s Sinopharm vaccine at a special ceremony at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) in Islamabad. Pakistan will receive another consignment of the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine on Monday (tomorrow).
According to sources, half a million doses of the vaccine will be brought to Pakistan via a special flight of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force on February 8.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan had already received 500,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine, which is being used to inoculate frontline healthcare workers in the country. So far, over 12,000 frontline healthcare workers have already been vaccinated.
