KARACHI: A cop was killed in an armed attack by unidentified men near Brooks Chowrangi area of the metropolis on Friday.
According to police sources, unknown armed men riding a motorbike opened fire on a policeman near Brooks Chowrangi. As a result, he suffered severe bullet injures and died on the spot.
The deceased police official, Arif Khan deployed in ‘Madadgar-15’ force, sources, added. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.
The executive director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Dr Seemi Jamali, said that the Arif Khan succumbed to his injuries before arriving at the JPMC.
Meanwhile, Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar took notice of the incident and sought a detailed inquiry report from the SSP Korangi.
Earlier, a policeman was martyred while a suspected robber was killed during a police encounter near the Hub Bypass.
Police officials said during patrolling and consistent surveillance, the police team came to know about the presence of at least three armed bandits in the area.
Meanwhile, the police team signaled a suspected motorbike to stop, however, the criminals opened fire on the police which was also retaliated by police.
During the shootout for some time, a policeman was martyred while a suspect was killed. The official said that the police had already marked the area for a surge in criminal activities including robberies and other heinous crimes.
