ISLAMABAD: A local court has decided to indict the head of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid, on March 2, in case pertaining to leveling allegations against PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari of hatching a plot to assassinate PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

The Islamabad police had arrested Sheikh Rashid on Feb 2 after a case was registered at the Aabpara police station for accusing the PPP co-chairman of hatching a plot to assassinate Imran Khan.

During the court proceedings today, police presented challan of the case, after which the court decided the date of indictment as March 2. On this occasion, Sheikh Rashid requested that the date be fixed for March 15 as he had to attend a conference, to which the Judicial Magistrate replied that after the submission of challan as per IHC orders, the local court had no such authority.

Sheikh Rashid also submitted a plea seeking registration of a case against Abpara police station for not returning his belongings, including mobile phones, confiscated at the time of his arrest.
He said his mobile phone were costly, to which, the judge said police had denied possessing the phones. The magistrate later returned the petition, directing the AML chief to submit it in the district and sessions judge as it did not come under his jurisdiction.
It may be recalled that after his arrest and brief prison term in Adiala Jail, Sheikh Rashid was granted bail on February 16 by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani directing the former minister to submit surety bonds worth Rs50,000.
