ISLAMABAD: A consultation process has been initiated between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition for the appointment of a caretaker premier, as Imran Khan is expected to write a letter to Shehbaz Sharif today.
According to details, Imran Khan will continue as the Prime Minister till the appointment of the caretaker Prime Minister. The 52-member federal cabinet has been dissolved. Twenty-five federal ministers, four ministers of state, four advisers and 19 special assistants also lost their posts.
According to the Constitution of Pakistan, President Dr. Arif Ali will appoint the caretaker Prime Minister in consultation with the outgoing Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition. In case of disagreement on any name, the Speaker will form an immediate committee of the National Assembly.
Outgoing Prime Minister Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif will send three names to the committee, while the eight-member committee will include four members of the opposition and four members of the government.

In case the members of the committee do not agree on the name of the caretaker Prime Minister, the matter will be referred to the Election Commission. Until the appointment of caretaker Prime Minister, the outgoing Prime Minister Imran Khan will remain in office.
Earlier, a meeting of the PTI Political Committee was held in Bani Gala under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister in which the names for the caretaker Prime Minister were considered. The name of caretaker Prime Minister proposed by Imran Khan is likely to be sent to Shahbaz Sharif today.
