Coastguards, police seize 1,100kg hashish in Gwadar

KARACHI: Pakistan Coastguards (PCG) and Gwadar police in a joint action foiled a bid to smuggle over 1,100 kilogrammes of hashish through the sea.

According to a coastguard spokesman, the authorities arrested four suspects attempting to smuggle 1,100 kg hashish through sea. The spokesperson said the hashish was being smuggled abroad through sea when the team conducted the raid and arrested the criminals. They also recovered a speedboat and a vehicle from their custody.

In September last year, the Pakistan Coast Guards foiled a smuggling attempt and seized around 450 kilograms of hashish during an operation near Winder in Balochistan.

The drugs were recovered from concealed compartments in a truck loaded with apple crates. One suspect was taken into custody. The value of the drugs is said to be around Rs771.9 million in the international market. The recovered drugs, truck, and three suspects were taken custody.

In a separate raid, two passenger women were arrested from a coach and 15 kilograms of high-quality cannabis was recovered from their possession. The women were taken into custody.

Pakistan Coastguards regularly conducts operations against smuggling and illegal trade and seized a large number of narcotics and other prohibited substances in the area.
