RAWALPINDI: US Charge d’ Affairs to Pakistan called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday at the General Head Quarters (GHQ) to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), matters of mutual interest, regional security situation including Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed during the meeting.
Highlighting the issue of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, the Army Chief reiterated the need for global convergence to address the evolving situation in the country.
During the meeting, the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role and efforts in the Afghan situation to maintain regional peace and stability, the military’s media wing added.
Earlier this month, COAS Bajwa stressed the urgency for swiftly devising an institutional mechanism for channelling humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Military Adviser to Minister of Defence Major General Talal Abdullah Al-Otaibi.
During the meeting, General Bajwa assured the envoy that Pakistan values its historical and brotherly relations with the Kingdom and acknowledges its unique place in the Islamic world.
The ISPR’s statement read that COAS underscored the importance of peace and reconciliation initiatives in Afghanistan. The visiting adviser acknowledged Pakistan’s role in the Afghan situation, special efforts for border management, role in regional stability.
