KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that more than 10.6 million children under the age of five will be administered polio drops during an ongoing province-wide vaccination campaign.
According to details, the anti-polio drive is being carried out across all districts of Sindh as part of efforts to eradicate the crippling disease. The chief minister formally inaugurated the campaign by administering oral polio vaccine to children at a ceremony.
The Chief Minister said the campaign aims to ensure that every child is protected against poliovirus, adding that thousands of frontline health workers have been deployed to conduct door-to-door vaccination, supported by security personnel.
Murad Ali Shah emphasised that eliminating polio remains a top priority of the provincial government and highlighted the importance of public cooperation in making the campaign successful. He urged parents to ensure their children receive polio drops and not to miss the opportunity.
The chief minister also paid tribute to polio workers for their efforts, noting that their role is crucial in safeguarding children’s health. He further stressed that awareness and community engagement are key to achieving a polio-free Sindh.
It may be added here that Pakistan remains one of the few countries where polio is still endemic, making sustained vaccination campaigns essential to prevent further spread of the virus.
