OpenAI has announced the integration of its generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT, with Meta’s WhatsApp messenger app after introducing the Sora AI video generator and SearchGPT.
Kevin Wei, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, confirmed that users in the US and Canada can now chat with ChatGPT on WhatsApp. As part of a pilot program, users are allowed 15 minutes of interaction per phone number per month.
To access the ChatGPT bot on WhatsApp, users can follow these steps:
- Add the number 1-800-242-8478, which carries a WhatsApp verified badge.
- Start a chat with the number to enter a session and interact with ChatGPT.
Currently, interactions are limited to text-based messages only, with no support for search functions or image-based chatting.
OpenAI has clarified that all conversations with ChatGPT on WhatsApp will be stored as a safety measure to prevent misuse.
The company reserves the right to block access if users engage in violations or inappropriate conversations.
