ISLAMABAD: Employees of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad are allegedly involved in stealing clean drinking water from Simly Dam Rawalpindi.
According to details, the pipeline from Simly Dam is supplying clean drinking water to Rawalpindi. The CDA Water Management Department has made an illegal connection in the mainline at the I-8 sector, due to which people of Rawalpindi are facing a water crisis.
Local Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Hafiz Maqsood had informed the Chairman of WASA Raja Shaukat regarding the stealing of water.
In this regard, Raja Shaukat has formed a team of officers under the supervision of SDO Malik Shafqat and sent bulldozers to excavate the site in the sector.
SDO Malik Shafqat along with other WASA staff has started digging the mainline supplying clean water from Simly Dam to Rawalpindi.
Raja Shaukat has instructed the team to sever illegal connections from the mainline and take legal action against CDA employees and others involved in the stealing of water.
On the other side, the water from Hub River – which is supplied to Karachi – is allegedly being stolen by the tanker mafia in connivance with officials from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KSWB).
The water between the Hub Pumping Station and the Hub River is being extracted through generator pumps and filled into water tankers. This is affecting the water being supplied to the pumping station, while KSWB officers continue to receive hefty payments as thousands of gallons of water are being stolen.
