ISLAMABAD: The caretaker Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) on Friday gave go-ahead to work on the first phase of the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline.
The Ministry of Energy said in a statement that the cabinet committee discussed a summary of the Petroleum Division’s findings regarding the IP Gas Pipeline during its meeting today.
According to the statement, the CCoE approved the recommendations made by the Ministerial Oversight Committee for the project, which was formed in September 2023 by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. The committee recommended beginning construction on the 80km section of the pipeline inside Pakistan, which would run from the border to Gwadar in the first phase.
The project will be executed by Inter State Gas Systems (Pvt) Ltd and funded through Gas Infrastructure Development Cess, the statement mentioned.

All the concerned divisions, the ministry said, gave a positive nod to move ahead with the project to ensure gas supplies to the people of Pakistan, thereby addressing the increasing energy needs of the country.
The ministry went on to say that the project will not only increase Pakistan’s energy security but also the confidence of the local sector, which would be guaranteed by improved gas supplies.
“This will additionally stimulate economic activity in the province of Balochistan and aid in the advancement of Pakistan’s economy,” the ministry continued.
