British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been shifted to intensive care in hospital after his coronavirus symptoms worsened, Downing Street confirmed.
According to Downing Street spokesperson, PM Boris Johnson was moved to intensive care on the advice of his medical team, adding that the prime minister was receiving excellent care.
The spokesperson further said that PM Johnson has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise for him.
He said, “Since Sunday evening, the prime minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas’ Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus.”
“The condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the intensive care unit at the hospital,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, PM Boris Johnson was admitted to the St Thomas’ Hospital in London after his coronavirus symptoms refused to go away. However, he was tested positive for coronavirus on March 26.
PM Boris Johnson is the most high-profile world leader to contract the virus. His partner, Carrie Symonds, is also recovering from symptoms but has not been tested.
