Priyanka Chopra Jonas has released a “desi version” of the iconic 1984 Wham! hit, “Last Christmas”.
This new rendition infuses the classic Western Christmas song with traditional Indian sounds and Hindi lyrics, creating a unique cross-cultural blend.
The song is a collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Gurinder Chadha (known for Bend It Like Beckham) and features production from Nitin Sawhney and Anoushka Shankar on the album.
The track and the full soundtrack album were released on November 7, 2025.
It is featured on the Christmas Karma (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) album, released by Sony Music.
The “Last Christmas” track is a central part of the soundtrack for the new festive family musical film Christmas Karma, directed by Gurinder Chadha.
The movie is a Bollywood-inspired, modern adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novella A Christmas Carol.
It follows the story of a contemporary, Indian-origin Scrooge figure named Mr. Sood (played by Kunal Nayyar from The Big Bang Theory) in London, who is visited by three ghosts of Christmas.
The ensemble cast includes other notable names like Eva Longoria, Billy Porter, Boy George, and Hugh Bonneville.
The film is scheduled for release in cinemas across the UK, Ireland, and the US on November 14, 2025.

Other listeners have been more critical, with some jokingly (or seriously) suggesting the “desi” element “killed the song” or critiquing the lip-syncing in promotional clips. The reception highlights the strong opinions people have about reimagining a beloved holiday classic.
The song marks her first major musical release since her singles in the early 2010s, including “In My City” and “Erase” (with The Chainsmokers).
